7 Reasons Why We Should Never Stop Having Tea Parties

Because beauty, femininity, and fellowship never go out of style.

When most people hear the words “tea party,” they picture little girls in dress-up clothes or a scene from a Jane Austen novel. But I believe tea parties are just as important for grown women today—maybe even more so.

In a world that moves fast, leans casual, and often overlooks the beauty of femininity, a tea party is a breath of fresh air. It’s more than just sipping something warm from a porcelain cup—it’s a return to grace, creativity, and meaningful connection.

Here are just a few reasons we should never stop having tea parties:

1. They’re a Gentle, Joyful Way to Gather

Unlike big dinner parties or formal events, tea parties can be simple and sweet. They don’t have to be elaborate—just a table, a teapot, and a few treats. There’s a kind of peace that comes when women gather around a table set with intention. It’s slow, personal, and welcoming. A tea party can be elaborate, but it can be done just as well by inviting a visitor to sit down for a spot of tea.

2. They Give Us a Reason to Use the Pretty Things

Why do we save the good china for “someday”? A tea party is the perfect excuse to pull out those dainty cups, vintage napkins, embroidered linens, or heirloom teapots. These lovely things weren’t made to only sit in cabinets—they were  to be used, shared, and enjoyed.

3. They Celebrate Femininity

There’s something undeniably feminine about a tea party. From the delicate details to the unhurried pace, it reflects the quiet beauty of womanhood. In a world that often urges us to rush, compete, or 'man up,' tea parties invite us to slow down, soften, and simply be. They give us a rare excuse to play dress-up again, just like we did as little girls. I’ve never found another occasion to wear a fancy hat and gloves—and I love that. It’s a joyful, creative expression of femininity, a chance to get all dolled up just because we can.

4. They Build Fellowship and Friendship

Tea parties are a wonderful way to gather women—whether it’s mothers and daughters, longtime friends, or ladies from church. These little gatherings offer something so many of us are longing for: meaningful conversation and real connection.

5. They Turn the Ordinary into Something Special

Even a simple afternoon can become something memorable when you serve tea in a pretty cup or add a few flowers to the table. You don’t need perfection—you just need a little beauty and a willing heart. These moments remind us to treasure what we have and find joy in what’s right in front of us.

6. They Offer the Warmest Kind of Stimulation

There’s something fascinating about how tea itself contributes to the mood. After a few cups, many of us feel cheerful, light, even giddy in the best way—without needing alcohol to get there. That little lift from the caffeine, paired with conversation and cozy surroundings, creates a natural jubilation. It’s a celebration for the senses—comforting and invigorating all at once.

7. They Reflect the Heart of Hospitality

Scripture reminds us that hospitality is an act of love—of opening our hearts and homes to others. A tea party may seem small, but it can reflect the love of Christ in powerful ways. Whether you’re pouring tea or offering a listening ear, you’re creating space for grace.

One of my favorite things to do is replace the typical playdate with a tea party. I’ll set out a few treats, brew a pot of tea, and invite another mom over. We’ll sit and enjoy the calm while our children sip from their little cups, nibble on a cookie or two, and then run off to play. It’s refreshingly peaceful and far more fulfilling than trying to chat over the noise of a fast-food playground or an uncomfortable park bench with a 'Johnny hearts Susie' carving.

So brew the tea. Set the table. Invite someone over.

Tea parties aren’t just for little girls—they’re also for women who understand the value of slowing down, making time, and sharing beauty with others.

Whether it’s a quiet moment with your daughter, a gathering of friends, or just you and the Lord—don’t underestimate the power of a cup of tea in a china cup.

8. Bonus (from my daughter):
Never stop having tea parties—because they give you a reason to bake something sweet! From cupcakes with too much frosting to cookies still warm from the oven, tea parties are the perfect excuse for homemade treats.

Fireworks and Flashbacks: A Nostalgic 4th of July

🎆 My Top 10 Favorite Nostalgic Things About the 4th of July A little love letter to simpler celebrations, gingham tables, and all the things that make Independence Day feel like home. There are so many things about the 4th of July that bring on a deep and vivid nostalgic euphoria—maybe even more than Christmastime. I think it’s because it comes on more suddenly, and once it’s here, we’re less distracted and there’s less pressure to make everything just perfect. It’s a holiday often spent kicking back and relaxing. But there’s just something about the 4th that feels like a sweet old memory. Maybe it’s the scent of barbecue smoke or the first taste of a bomb pop. Maybe it’s the way even a divided country seems to pause for a moment to stand together. Whatever it is, this day carries with it a kind of old-fashioned magic. And today, I’m celebrating that with my top ten favorite nostalgic things about the Fourth—those little details that feel stitched right into the American m...

Why I Ditched My Modern Wardrobe (And Don’t Miss It One Bit)

My dresser drawers are stuffed full. Folded and refolded again, they’re packed with a familiar uniform: jeans in varying shades of denim and stacks of graphic tees — most of them faith-based. Verses. Promises. A few with clever Christian slogans. They were comfortable, practical, and modest enough. But something always felt… off. They were what I wore because it was easy. Because it was expected. Because they were "just clothes." But now they mostly live in the drawers — jammed shut like a closet full of unopened letters — while my dresses and skirts sway gently from hangers, waiting for their turn in the daylight. And lately, they’ve gotten it. The Slow Unraveling of the Modern Uniform I never made a dramatic decision to stop wearing jeans. I didn’t swear off T-shirts or donate all my pants to charity in a moment of cinematic resolve. It happened slowly, almost without my noticing. At first, I just grabbed a dress on a Sunday because it felt nice. Then a sk...

Adorned for His Glory - Dressing and Accessorizing for the King

Adorned for His Glory A reflection on beauty, humility, and worship through the eyes of Scripture A Personal Turning Point I've always believed in God. Since I was a little girl, I’ve had a strong connection with Him and a steady prayer life. But if I had to point to the moment where I truly became born again, it would be when I opened my Bible and began reading it for myself. That’s when everything changed. I wasn’t just talking to God anymore—I was finally listening. I wasn’t leaning on my own understanding or relying on secondhand ideas about what was right and wrong. I was hearing directly from the source: God’s Word. I began to question everything I had ever been taught or assumed. I searched the Scriptures for answers to questions that had lingered in my heart for years—and for the first time, I found them. What struck me most was how rarely I had been encouraged to do that. All the times I pondered life’s deepest, most biblical questions—not once had anyone simpl...
